# Gallery darkroom wall

> A selected-work wall on a dark slab: ten photographs hung in three bands, a wide frame beside a tall one, then a staggered trio of columns where portrait and landscape frames interlock, then the first band mirrored, every band ending level. Each frame carries a contact-sheet caption, its number on the left and client, place and year on the right, with a label and heading above and a text link to the full index below. On a phone the frames stack in order. States no colour and no font of its own.

### Dark wall (the default)

Identical markup in every theme.

Your contrast colour as the wall with base captions, headings and link, a currentColor mark on the label and a currentColor hairline above the link.

### Folio

This variation states its own colours and states its own type: identical in every theme.

## The signature moment: every frame numbered like a contact sheet, the portrait and landscape frames interlocking so each band ends level

**Three bands of `core/columns`.** The first is a wide 3:2 frame beside a tall
3:4 one at two thirds and one third, so both are the same height. The middle
band is three equal columns, each a portrait (4:5) over a landscape (4:3) or
the reverse, alternating across the row like a checkerboard: every column adds
up to the same height, so the band ends level. The last band mirrors the
first, the wide frame changing sides. Under every photograph a caption row
sets the frame number on the left and client, place and year on the right, in
small capitals.

On a phone each band stacks, so the ten frames read in number order at full
width with their captions. Nothing is cropped by a grid track and no row can
end short, because the bands are columns, not an auto-filled grid.

## What it inherits from your theme

- **The typeface.** No font family is stated; the heading takes the theme's
  `xx-large` rung with a display clamp behind it, captions and label are small
  tracked capitals in your body face.
- **Your colours.** The wall is your `contrast` colour and every caption,
  label, heading and the link is your `base` colour, stated on each block so
  a theme with a dark slab keeps it legible (4.5:1 wherever the pair allows,
  measured on the painted values). The label's mark and the hairline above
  the link are `currentColor`.
- **Your spacing.** Vertical rhythm is on your spacing presets; the gutters
  between frames are fixed at 0.75rem so the wall reads as one hang.

## The Folio look

The free Folio set's wall: darkroom black `#141517`, frame numbers in bone
`#efe9df`, facts in silver `#b9bcc2` monospace, a safelight `#c8432b` mark on
the label, a Helvetica heading and a bone underlined link to the index.

Ten CC0 photographs from the WordPress.org Photo Directory, linked from
pd.w.org: a staircase, a palace front, dried flowers, a room by tall windows,
a temple courtyard, a pendant light, a wooded shore, a cane cabinet, a film
camera and a cove. Replace them with your own; every frame keeps its ratio.
