# Menu place card

> A wedding breakfast menu set as a place card: a narrow double-ruled card centred beside a tall photograph of the table, a heading, then each course as a small label over two dishes divided by an italic or, dietary marks after each dish, and a key and note at the foot. No prices. On a phone the photograph sits above the card as a band. States no colour and no font of its own.

### Place card (the default)

Identical markup in every theme.

Your base card with contrast type inside two currentColor rules on your base ground, short currentColor rules between the courses and the photograph unveiled.

### Vow

This variation states its own colours and states its own type: identical in every theme.

## The signature moment: a centred place-card menu where every course is a choice of two, divided by an italic "or"

**Each course is a small label over two dishes with an italic "or" between
them**, centred down a card about 30rem wide, with a short centred rule
between courses, so it reads as a printed card rather than a list. The last
course swaps the "or" for "and" (pudding, and the cake). Dietary marks follow
each dish and a key sits at the foot. The card is two nested bordered groups,
an outer hairline and an inner rule inset 0.625rem. The photograph is a
`core/cover` as a grid cell, so it stretches to the card's height on a laptop
and becomes a band of at least 16rem above the card on a phone.

## What it inherits from your theme

- **Typeface.** The base states no font family.
- **Palette.** The card is your `base` colour with `contrast` type, both
  rules and the short rules `currentColor`. Labels are on the label role. The
  photograph carries no veil and no type.

## What it decides for itself

- **The heading.** The `x-large` rung; the "or" the `large` rung, italic.
- **The card's width.** 30rem, held by a constrained wrapper.
- **The grid.** `minimumColumnWidth: 26rem`: photograph and card side by
  side from 1000px wide, stacked below.

## What to change first

1. **The dishes and marks.** Each dish is one paragraph; duplicate a course
   group to add a course.
2. **The photograph.**
3. **The note at the foot.**

## The Vow look

Part of the Vow Pattern Set, a couple's whole wedding website in one design
language: wisteria white `#f7f5fb` ground, midnight `#1f2240` ink, dusk
`#555a78` muted ink, card white `#ffffff` on a wisteria hairline `#d9d3e6`,
peony `#a8365a` labels on light grounds and pale peony `#f2b8c9` on the
midnight slab. Names and headings are Didot at 400 with an italic ampersand;
body, labels and buttons are Gill Sans. Buttons are square midnight
rectangles or underlined peony links; cards and photographs are square. Every
text pair is measured on the ground it is painted on. Take the base for your
