Page header meta: WordPress Block Pattern, Pattern Paste Canonical: https://patternpaste.com/pattern/page-header-meta.html Core Patterns (https://patternpaste.com/patterns/) Page header (https://patternpaste.com/patterns/page-header/) Catalogue access Standard # Page header meta An interior-page opening for a page whose facts matter as much as its name: a small tracked kicker, a title set deliberately low, and four facts on one ruled row beneath it, divided by currentColor hairlines rather than boxed into chips. The values are set at reading size and the labels at 13px, so the row reads as a line of record rather than as decoration. No action, no image and no coloured band. ## All patterns Search patterns Loading patterns… Start here ## What to change first - The four facts. Label and value are separate paragraphs, so a fact can be anything: location and contract for a role, date and venue for an event, client and year for a project. - The kicker. One or two words. - The title. Built for four to six words at this size. - The composition. Ship this one where the facts read as a line, and page-header-facts where the page wants the title held on its own beside a ledger of facts. The signature moment ## The facts are ruled, not boxed The signature is that nothing here is a chip. The four facts sit in one band closed top and bottom by hairlines, and each fact is opened by a vertical currentColor rule of its own. No plates, no pills, no borders around anything, so the row reads as one continuous line of record with ticks in it rather than as four little cards. Every rule in the section is currentColor, so the whole device is the colour of the text and cannot drift from it. Theme handoff ## What comes from where ### From your theme - The typeface. - Your colours. - Your spacing scale. ### Set by this pattern - Full bleed with a 1240px measure - Four equal columns. - The label/value pair. - h1 with its own colour Full pattern notes ## Why it works, and how it is built Open a topic for the complete design reasoning, editing guidance and implementation notes. Design rationaleComposition, intent and nearest alternatives ### Overview The opening of an interior page whose facts matter as much as its name: a kicker, a title set deliberately low, and four facts on one ruled row underneath. A job posting, an event, a document, a project. Core blocks only: core/group, core/paragraph, core/heading, core/columns, core/column. ### The signature moment: the facts are ruled, not boxed The signature is that nothing here is a chip. The second half of the signature is the ratio. The title is a clamp(1.75rem, 3.2vw, 2.75rem) and the values under it are clamp(1.0625rem, 1.35vw, 1.375rem), so the facts are set at reading size and the title is only about twice their size. That is what makes this a different pattern from page-header-rule rather than that pattern with extras: there the title is up to 84px and the collapse from a 15px breadcrumb is the design, here the title is deliberately quiet so the four facts can be the thing you read. #### What the row does on a phone The band's columns stack below 782px, and because the row carries no vertical gap the four fact groups arrive flush against one another. Their left rules join into a single unbroken rail down the left of the facts, and the labels and values run down beside it. The same four marks do both jobs: four ticks across a row at 1400, one continuous rail at 390. There is exactly one set of borders in the markup. ### Why it is not a hero No action, no image, no coloured band. The ground asks for base, which is the page's own paper. A vacancy page's apply button belongs to the section that carries the job description, not to the line that names it. Make it yoursVariations and the edits to make first ### What to change first - The four facts. Label and value are separate paragraphs, so a fact can be anything: location and contract for a role, date and venue for an event, client and year for a project. Delete a column and the remaining three share the row. - The kicker. One or two words. It names the kind of page, which is what lets the title be the specific thing. - The title. Built for four to six words at this size. It is the one place in the pattern where growing the type would break the composition, because the facts stop being the point. - The composition. Ship this one where the facts read as a line, and page-header-facts where the page wants the title held on its own beside a ledger of facts. Theme behaviourInheritance, fixed decisions and contrast ### What it inherits from your theme - The typeface. No font family is stated. The labels carry 0.2em of tracking and the values carry -0.01em, which is where the record feeling comes from rather than from a chosen face. - Your colours. base for the paper, contrast for the type, both chains ending on a colour WordPress guarantees. Every rule is currentColor. - Your spacing scale. The band's internal padding and the space above it are spacing presets. ### What it decides for itself - Full bleed with a 1240px measure, so the band's rules are long rules. - Four equal columns. No widths are stated on the columns, so the facts share the row evenly and a longer value wraps to two lines inside its own column rather than pushing its neighbours about. - The label/value pair. A 13px tracked uppercase label over a value at reading size, with a fixed 0.4rem between them, so all four pairs sit on the same two baselines. - h1 with its own colour, because a theme's heading element style beats a colour inherited from the wrapping group. Technical notesBlock mechanics, responsive behaviour and constraints ### Notes - Core blocks only. No plugin, no script, no separator: every rule is a group border, which cannot be narrowed to a stub the way a plain core/separator is in Twenty Twenty-Four. - The vertical rules are borders on a group inside each column, not on the column itself, so they are on a block whose border support is not in question. Questions ## Page header meta: common questions Does Page header meta need a plugin? No. It is built only from core WordPress blocks (column, columns, group, heading and paragraph), so it pastes into the block editor with nothing to install. Will Page header meta match my theme? Yes. It names no colour or font of its own: every colour, size and space is a preset from your theme, so it takes your theme’s palette and type when pasted. Is Page header meta free? It is included with a subscription, with every Core Pattern and variation. 62 Core Patterns are free to copy without one. Which WordPress version does it need? Requires a block theme on WordPress 7.0 to 7.1. Classic themes and page builders are outside our supported setup. Adaptive patterns use the block theme’s colour, spacing and typography presets; styled variations declare their own colours or type. 9.4KB of core-block markup, 5 blocks (column, columns, group, heading, paragraph), and nothing else: paste it into the block editor and it becomes editable blocks wearing your theme. The name, the biography and the two neighbours are dynamic core blocks, so they are the post's own and the preview here is sample data; the portrait is an ordinary image block you swap for your author's own. The previous and next links only resolve on a single post template, which is where this pattern belongs. (https://patternpaste.com/pattern/article-footer.html)Features Appointment letter checklist What to bring to a first appointment, set as the confirmation letter itself: a card with the booking's details written into ruled blanks (date, time, who, where, length and fee) and a checklist of empty squares to tick the night before, beside a short introduction. States no colour and no font of its own. (https://patternpaste.com/pattern/appointment-letter-checklist.html)Tables Compare matrix A capability matrix in a core table: one row per capability, one column for each of the two plans people choose between, and a mark in every cell, with a third plan named in one line under the table instead of a fourth column that would ladder its row headers on a phone. The recommended column is announced by a two-pixel bracket that stands over it and hands off to the table's own hairlines, so nothing is filled and nothing is coloured. Three fixed columns hold roughly 117 pixels each at 390. States no colour and no font of its own. (https://patternpaste.com/pattern/compare-matrix.html) #### Before you paste Requires a block theme on WordPress 7.0 to 7.1. Classic themes and page builders are outside our supported setup.
