# Portfolio slider editorial

> An editorial portfolio section with four broad image-led project cards and compact caption and project metadata beneath each image. Needs the companion plugin, which comes with your access; without it the masthead is followed by the four projects as a plain stack, and without motion they remain a horizontally scrollable native row. States no colour and no font of its own.

Canonical: https://patternpaste.com/pattern/portfolio-slider-editorial.html
Section: Gallery
Access: Included in Pattern Paste access.
Needs: Requires a block theme on WordPress 6.7 to 7.0. Classic themes and page builders are outside our supported setup. Adaptive patterns use the block theme’s colour, spacing and typography presets; styled variations declare their own colours or type.
Also needs: Install the Pattern Paste plugin first, then paste. This section embeds one of its blocks: the plugin comes with your access, downloads from your account, and takes a minute. Paste without it and the section arrives as a plain stack of your headings, text and images, with none of the motion.
Blocks: column, columns, group, heading, image, paragraph, patternpaste/content-slider
Keywords: portfolio, projects, gallery, slider, editorial

Promise: This variation embeds one of our blocks: install the companion plugin, then paste.

## The signature moment: An oversized project image leads a horizontal sequence of compact editorial captions

Each project is encountered as an image first, then resolved by a deliberately smaller title and two-line metadata note. Alternating image crops create a broad/narrow editorial rhythm without changing the track itself.

## Why this is not testimonial slider proof or feature slider walkthrough

The testimonial pattern makes words and a metric collide inside equal cards; the walkthrough is one linear explanation where every stage splits image and copy and the numbers set the order. This sequence is image-led, gives each project a different crop, and keeps the caption quiet enough to behave like a magazine folio.

## What it inherits from your theme

Typeface and palette. The section uses the guaranteed base and contrast chains, and every heading remains on the theme's size ladder.

## What it decides for itself

Four projects at 72% width with a generous gap. The alternating 16:9, 4:3, 3:2 and 16:9 crops make the images change pace while the captions retain one 65/35 structure.

## What needs the plugin

The plugin adds the horizontal row, arrows, counter and keyboard navigation. Without the plugin, the four native Groups form a plain stack; with reduced motion, they remain in the touch-friendly horizontal row without smooth transitions. There is no autoplay and no content is hidden.

## What you change first

1. Replace all four images and their alt text from the Media Library.
2. Change the project titles, discipline, client and year in each named Slide group.
3. Preserve the short caption shape; long case-study summaries belong on the linked project page.
4. Change the h2 level to fit its page. AI tools can safely reorder or rewrite Slides because the block uses ordinary WordPress groups, images, columns and text.

## What is not proved
