Install the Pattern Paste plugin

What you get

One WordPress plugin, self-hosted rather than on wordpress.org, and it comes with your access at no extra cost. It registers blocks and nothing else: no patterns, no theme, no stylesheet over your site. The catalogue stays here, on the storefront, where you can see every section rendered before you take it.

• Chapters patternpaste/chaptersChapters of prose beside one picture frame that stays with the reader as they scroll. As each chapter reaches the reading line the frame takes that chapter's picture, changing shape to its crop, or, with the camera on, pans and zooms across one scene to the point that chapter marks. The frame can hold a picture, a cover or anything in a group named Frame, sit beside the chapters or behind them as a backdrop, and the chapters not being read can fade back. Without JavaScript it is a two-column spread with every picture beside its own words.
• Content Slider patternpaste/content-sliderA native horizontal collection of editable Group blocks with touch scrolling, optional snapping, keyboard navigation and arrow, number or dot controls. Without JavaScript it remains a scrollable row; without the plugin its native blocks become a plain stack.
• Isometric wall patternpaste/iso-wallA wall of tiles laid on an isometric plane. Adjacent lanes run in opposite directions and wrap forever, either while the section is pinned or as a band of a stated height the page scrolls straight past, and any tile can be pulled square to the reader. Without JavaScript it is a still isometric composition.
• Marquee patternpaste/marqueeRows of items that run forever past a frame. Adjacent rows travel in opposite directions and wrap seamlessly, and the pointer rewinds them, holds them still or drives them faster by where it sits across the frame. Without JavaScript it is a still row of items clipped by its own band.
• Scrollspy Rail patternpaste/scrollspy-railA native block section whose sticky index follows the reader through named content sections. Each top-level Group becomes a section, its first heading supplies the link label, and ordinary anchor links remain useful without JavaScript.
• Stack patternpaste/stackCards that stack over one another as the reader scrolls. The section holds the screen while each card rides up from below, overshoots its resting line and locks, and every card already down slides back a notch, shrinks, dims and leans away, so the section reads as a pile being built rather than content scrolling past. A hard flick tips the whole pile and it springs level again. Without JavaScript it is the plain column of cards the markup already is.
• Warp Reel patternpaste/warp-reelA screen-filling photographic wheel that snaps to a complete project after every scroll or drag and loops in both directions. Choose a finite page-scroll sequence instead in the editor. Narrow screens use a compact swipeable photo gallery with optional instructions; without motion, every project remains in a native gallery.

Before you start

You need a subscription and a browser signed in to it. Nothing else: no licence file to place, no key to type before it will run, and no FTP. If you are looking at a section badged Needs plugin and wondering whether to paste it first and install afterwards, do it the other way round: pasting first works, and looks exactly like a section that has no motion in it.

The steps

1. Sign in at your account and open the Themes & downloads tab.

2. Press the download button under The Pattern Paste plugin. Your browser saves one .zip. Do not unzip it: WordPress wants the .zip itself.

3. In your site’s admin, open the left-hand menu and go to Plugins, then "Add New Plugin".

4. Press "Upload Plugin" at the top of the page.

5. Press "Choose File", pick the .zip you downloaded, and press "Install Now".

6. When WordPress says the plugin was installed successfully, press "Activate Plugin". That is the install finished, and the sections will work from here.

7. For updates and paid library downloads, copy your licence key from your account. Paste it into Settings → Pattern Paste and press Activate licence. WordPress registers this site for you. Use the same key on your other sites. For a staging or local installation, choose that site type and enter its live or planned production URL so the pair shares one place.

8. Now paste. Open a section that needs it, press Copy on its page, and paste into an empty paragraph in the block editor exactly as you would any other pattern.

Where it appears afterwards

• The block inserter has a Pattern Paste category, holding the blocks the plugin registers. You will rarely start there: a pasted section arrives with its block already in place and already filled in.
• Select one of those blocks in the editor and the right-hand sidebar carries a Motion panel: the movement, its length and its angles, all with the values the pattern was designed at. Turn Animate off and the block is a still composition rather than a broken one.
• Settings → Pattern Paste holds licence activation, connection status and the optional pattern library switch, alongside the motion state and installed version. Your account lists connected sites and lets you deactivate them.
• Plugins → Installed Plugins is where it lives, and where you turn it off.

What to know

• Turn the plugin off, or delete it, and a section that used it loses its wrapper and its movement. Your headings, your text and your images stay on the page as a plain stack, in the right order and still readable: nothing you typed lives inside a plugin attribute. We prove that rather than assert it, by rendering every one of those sections with the plugin deleted from the filesystem and holding what is left to the same contrast and reflow floors as any other pattern.
• A visitor who has asked their system for reduced motion gets the still version, and that decision is theirs rather than a setting on your site. The block never overrides it.
• No check of any kind runs when a visitor loads a page. There is no licence call in the rendering path, so nothing about your subscription can change what a published page does. Requests are limited to licence activation and status checks, plugin updates, and catalogue browsing or downloads when you enable and use the optional library.
• If your access lapses, every site with the plugin on it keeps working and keeps rendering exactly as it does today. What ends is updates and the right to download it for a new site.
• It is not on wordpress.org, so it will not appear in the Plugins → Add New search. The zip on your account is the whole distribution.
• The optional library starts off. Enable it in Settings → Pattern Paste, then choose designs under Appearance → Pattern Paste. Only designs you download and enable appear in your inserter. Free designs need no licence activation; downloaded copies and existing pages remain yours.
• It needs WordPress 6.7 or later, the same floor every pattern is held to, and it is tested on both ends of the range on every release.
