The signature moment
A window cut through the veil
The outer cover's photograph sits under an 80% veil of your contrast. Beside the headline, an inner cover carries the same photograph at no veil, with the same focal point, so the clear rectangle reads as the veil cut away over the scene behind it. The window is a 4:5 frame as tall as the copy beside it. A small caption plate laps the window's foot: it is itself a plain-colour cover, because a later cover paints above an earlier one where an ordinary group would slide under the photograph.

Inherits: every colour, the typeface, the spacing scale. Decides: the veil's opacity, the 4:5 window, the 1440px measure, the 40rem minimum height (in rem, never vh), the display ramp and the lap of the caption plate.

Overview
A full-bleed core/cover with display type on a heavy veil, and nested inside it a second cover showing the same photograph clear, as if the veil had been cut away in one rectangle.

Theme behaviourInheritance, fixed decisions and contrast
What it inherits, what it decides
Inherits: every colour, the typeface, the spacing scale. Decides: the veil's opacity, the 4:5 window, the 1440px measure, the 40rem minimum height (in rem, never vh), the display ramp and the lap of the caption plate.

Why type on the photograph is permitted here
At dimRatio 80 with a contrast veil, the lightest ground the base type can land on is the veil over a white photograph, which measured 10.2:1 in Twenty Twenty-Five; below 80 that stops being guaranteed. The headline is display type, a bare clamp(), because its size is the composition. The caption never touches the photograph: it is on a base plate under contrast type.
What a buyer changes first
The photograph, in BOTH covers: replace the outer one, then the window, with the same image, and keep the focal points equal. Then the headline; three or four words at this size.
The Styled look
variations/heath-and-lichen.html states its own colours and faces: the veil is deep heath green (#1f3a2c) at 80% with pale lichen type (#e4e8cf), the button is amber (#e09a4a) with heath type and a 2px corner, and the caption plate is lichen under heath in italic serif. Iowan Old Style (Palatino, Georgia) sets the headline over Helvetica.
Included images

Questions
Cover window: common questions
Does Cover window need a plugin?
No. It is built only from core WordPress blocks (button, buttons, cover, group, heading and paragraph), so it pastes into the block editor with nothing to install.
Will Cover window match my theme?
Choose by variation. Ink veil, clear window takes your theme’s palette; Heath and lichen brings its own colours.
How many variations does Cover window have?
2: Ink veil, clear window and Heath and lichen. Each is its own markup; choose one in the toolbar above the preview before you copy.
Can I use my own images?
Yes. Sample images stay in the copied blocks. Replace them in WordPress; pasting does not upload them to your Media Library.
Is Cover window free?
It is included with a subscription, with every Core Pattern and variation. 62 Core Patterns are free to copy without one.
The markup
Core block markup and nothing else. Copy it, then paste it straight into the block editor: WordPress reads the delimiters and rebuilds the blocks.
